That's right. Buckle up it's time for the launch of the uncommon leader podcast. Hey, fellow leaders, I'm John Gallagher, your host of the Uncommon leader podcast. And I'm excited about taking a leap in the podcasting world with this first episode made for you: a leader on a journey of lifelong learning, committed to your personal development and the development of others. Ultimately champion leaders growing other champions are those that will be listening to this podcast. In this 20 to 30 minute weekly podcast, I will be interviewing motivating and inspiring leaders. Many of them continue to be mentors of mine, who are ready to share their leadership story with you? Each interview will be unique as we'll be telling a real life story of an uncommon journey. For you, this means a new episode every week waiting to accompany you on your walk or your workout, your commute to or any other activity where you can wear your earbuds and you need a dose of encouragement and inspiration. Each episode, we'll start with a brief introduction of the spotlighted leader, followed immediately by a dive into their personal story of something they've experienced early in their life or career that still impacts them today. I've done a few of these interviews already, and I'll tell you some of the stories that are coming out are really epic and impactful. No doubt about it. From there, we'll jump right into their leadership journey to discuss a major success or failure they may have experienced. We'll talk about the barriers they had to overcome. And the steps they took to overcome those barriers and succeed. Some of the questions I'm going to ask them include: What is the best or worst advice you've ever received? What is the book you have read that you have gifted the most? And when you feel overwhelmed or on the verge of a crisis, how do you respond? So some of these questions I'll tee up for them beforehand, but some of the questions I'll surprise them with as well. And I'm going to look to go a little bit deeper with each of them with questions designed to harvest uncommon responses like, tell me about a time when you felt like you had to follow a traditional career path choice, but your heart or your faith were compelling you to go in a different direction. Or how about when you're able to silence an inner critic? Often many of us have those inner critics or frankly, all of us do. I know I experienced it regularly, but how were you able to silence that critic as a personal motivator and make a change that would be impactful. I know these interviews are going to be fun, but they're also going to yield incredible value for you. And I hope they encourage and inspire you to respond with changes that you need to make in your life to move toward the leader you want to be. So why did I decide now was the time to start a podcast? I mean, there's 500,000 podcasts that are already out there. You do a search for business and leadership podcasts and they exist today. Why? I don't know, but how is mine going to be different. It really goes back over 20 years when I started listening to John Maxwell's monthly tape club. Yep. They were tapes. Absolutely. They, you stuck in the machine. I guess I'm showing my age here a little bit, but I looked forward to that package coming in the mail each month, just like Ralphie did looking for his secret decoder pin in the mail each day. I woul listen to those sharing with friends and have lunch meetings with my team. And we would discuss many of the learnings that came from those tapes and then CDs. As I look back on that and reflect, it was a dream of mine to start a club like that one day where I might add value to others as well. Like John Maxwell was adding to me personally and my team. At the time I wrote down a goal to impact 1 million people. Now, I don't know if this podcast ever gets to a million people and I don't really care about that number but frankly, if it helps just one of you listening, then I fulfilled one of my goals to add value to others. But it was out of that desire and that learning that this podcast was born 20 years later. No audio tapes, no CDs. Just to download on your podcast, listening platform of choice. Speaking of platforms, I encourage you to subscribe or follow this podcast through your listening device, whether it be apple podcast, Spotify, iHeart, or some other platform, or you can subscribe through my website@wwwgrowingchampions.net podcast. Be sure to subscribe so that the podcast comes to you automatically each week. And it's certainly my hope that you get even half as excited when it pops up for you. In your list to listen to, as I did, when I got that CD in the mail each month. My mantra is I want to make a difference with people who want to make a difference. If you got this far in this initial podcast then I believe you, too, want to make a difference. To be Uncommon ultimately is to develop and make use of your God-given talents and gifts. To continuously improve yourself and to serve, grow and multiplied other leaders. Our homes, communities, churches, businesses, country, and world need more uncommon leadership. I hope that this podcast is just one platform that helps to fill that need. So go and subscribe, get ready for that first one to come out here in just a couple of weeks, and let's go and grow champions.
